Are You Qualified For The Job You Want?

What is the first thing you do when you want to find a new job? The chances are you will start looking in the jobs section of the local papers. You might also go online to see what is available, and you’ll ask friends and family to keep an eye out for suitable positions. But, how much do you think about your qualifications?

It doesn’t tend to be the first thing you think about, and yet how well qualified you are to take on the job you are interested in is very important. But, if you don’t have what is required for the role you want, then you could waste a lot of time filling out the application forms. What’s more, being turned down constantly could be very demoralising – when it probably wouldn’t happen if you had the right qualifications.

So what do you need to do?

The best route to success is to think carefully about what role you would like to take on in the first place. For example, let’s suppose you want to work in the medical field. That is a very big field to go into, and there are potentially hundreds of jobs that you could apply for.

Needless to say, some will require more qualifications than others. For example, a sales job may need a certain level of experience, whereas becoming a doctor will obviously require several years of training to become successful. So, you need to think carefully about what area of work you want to go into before you start applying for any type of job at all.

It may be that you have a very specific idea of what you would like to do – and you’re not sure which job would suit you best. In this case it would help to speak to a careers adviser or other professionals who can enlighten you as to what to expect.

This is particularly the case if the career you are thinking about will require retraining. The last thing you want to do is to spend time and money studying for the exams you need, only to find you don’t like your new job when you finally get it.

If you can possibly speak to someone who is already settled in the career you are thinking of choosing, so much the better. This will give you the best possible insight into what you can expect when you finally get there. You can also ask any questions you might have about what the role entails.

No matter whether you want to go into banking, medical, industrial or pharmaceutical jobs, be sure you are prepared for what to expect before you apply for anything. Only this will ensure you get the best possible result for you.
